Up Close
This week we get up close with a new event taking place in Jamestown on October 12th and 13th. The Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5K is a unique mixture of sports and comedy organized by the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, Lucy Desi Center for Comedy, and Chautauqua Striders. Over 300 runners have already registered for one or both of the races. Besides the races, the event includes a performance by Martin Short at the Reg Lenna Civic Center on October 12th. It isn’t too late to register, but act quickly as prices increase as race day approaches.

This is also a great opportunity for downtown businesses to capitalize on the estimated 1,000 people that will be downtown during the Columbus Day weekend. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact Matt Hanson at the Arena for more information.

Article of the Week
From time to time we feature stories about the new economies that develop when artisans and communities collaborate. Here is another story, this one from Santa Rosa, CA. In this example the lines between the business and non-profit worlds become blurred, and the results are impressive. Santa Rosa's economy is strengthening every day with connections developing through Share Exchange. Read the article to learn more about how marrying different organizational structures can lead to surprising results.

Video of the Week
There are endless ways to our built environment more dynamic and it’s great to see people taking full advantage of Jamestown’s inventory of unique spaces. Volt Vision, a company based in Warren, PA, worked with Mike Dykeman, owner of the Dykeman-Young Gallery and Vintage Emporium, to use LED lights to draw attention to Mike's upper floor spaces at East Second and Pine streets. The end result is wonderful and brings new character to an old building. But the story doesn’t end there. During the Lucille Ball Festival of Comedy, Volt Vision got out their toys and made the installation interactive by putting passersby in control of the lights. Watch the video to see downtown light up.
