Michael Edwards

Executive Director

Michael Edwards is the current Director of the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation in Jamestown, New York. He is responsible for the downtown revitalization program including organization, design and rehabilitation, economic and business development, and downtown marketing.

Prior to his role in Jamestown, Edwards was the President & CEO of Chicago Loop Alliance. For 13 years Edwards—an economic development and place management expert—guided efforts in promoting a high-performing urban experience by leading the community with inclusive programs and policies that attracts people and investment to the Loop.  He was responsible for establishing a full-service business improvement district including strategic planning and advocacy; clean, safe and beautiful services; placemaking and activating spaces, promotion and events resulting in increasing business patronage, property values and expanded taxbase.

Edwards completed similar work leading the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, the Downtown Spokane Partnership and was formerly a Principal at The Saratoga Associates, a New York State based urban planning consulting firm.

Edwards is a founding member (2018) of the Global Business District Innovation Club, Paris, France; a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Place Management, Manchester, UK; as well as a past member of the International Downtown Association Board of Directors.

Edwards is a recognized expert in downtown management and frequently speaks internationally on key downtown opportunities and challenges.
