What is ArtScape?

In collaboration with Chautauqua Art Gallery, Pearl City Clay House, and the City of Jamestown Parks Department, the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation is launching an outdoor gallery in downtown Jamestown, N.Y. This juried art competition invites artists of all ages to submit their work for a chance to be featured on banners displayed along downtown light poles. Chautauqua Art Gallery and Pearl City Clay House serve as host sponsors, showcasing the original artwork and overseeing artist coordination and banner production.

Why ArtScape in Jamestown?

ArtScape aims to create an outdoor gallery experience in the heart of the community. Vibrant banners bring color and character to the downtown streetscape, encouraging both pedestrians and drivers to slow down and take in the artwork. Each banner features the work of local artists, celebrating the creativity and talent found throughout the region.

How does it work?

Artists are invited to submit their work to the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation for consideration in the ArtScape program. A juried selection committee reviews all entries, welcoming artists of various ages and experience levels. Many participants are semi-professional or professional, and new in 2025, a dedicated youth category has been introduced for artists under 18.

Selected pieces are professionally photographed, and design work begins to prepare the images for printing on high-quality vinyl banners. Each banner proudly displays the artist’s name along with the name of the sponsor. At the end of the exhibit, banners are taken down and given to the sponsor, who may choose to keep the banner or donate it back to the artist.

Although sponsors do not receive reproduction rights to the artwork, they are encouraged to showcase their banner in their place of business as a way to demonstrate their commitment to supporting local art and enhancing the cultural landscape of downtown Jamestown.
